Why choose one wall instead of the whole room?

New houses around Venice tend to hand over the keys with every wall the same pale color. An accent wall is often the first change owners make, because it adds character without touching floors, cabinets or furniture.

The color houses are leaning darker and warmer, too: both of the big U.S. paint brands picked browns or khakis as their 2026 colors of the year (details on our color page). That mood suits a single wall better than a whole room.

Which kinds of wall suit which places?

Fresh drywall in Wellen Park new builds. Older ranch homes in Nokomis that want trim with some character. Breezy waterfront houses on Manasota Key and Casey Key, where humidity shapes material choices. Busy family hallways across South Sarasota. We write about all of them; if you’re thinking of a wall of your own, ask whether your home is in our area.

For finished examples, Trim My Crib’s accent wall portfolio is the reference we keep coming back to.
